Chunky Socks Knitting Pattern - Atlantis Socks



What you'll need:

Yarn: 1 skein of Drops Big Delight Colour 09 (Atlantis) or Colour 16 (Berry)
Needles: Double Point Needles 5mm
Stitch markers
Scissors
A wool sewing needle

Glossary:


CO: Cast on
dpn: double point needles
k: knit
k2tog: knit 2 stitches together
p: purl
p2tog: purl 2 stitches together
sl: slip
ssk: slip as to knit, slip as to purl, knit them together
sts: stitches

Instructions: 


(One size fits most adults)

CO 40 sts

Divide the sts among 4 dpn.

Rib section:

k2p2 for 9 rows

knit all to the end of the row for 15 rows



Heel section:

Put the sts from two of the needles in an only needle. This is just to knit the heel more easily.

1º-  k2, *sl1, k1* for 20 sts, end with k1, turn
2º-  sl1, purl to end, turn
3º-  *sl1, k1*, turn

Repeat rows 2 and 3 for 8 rows.



Gusset section:

1º- Purl half + 1 sts, p2tog, p1
2º- sl1, k5, ssk, k1, turn
3º- sl1, p6, p2tog, p1, turn,
4º- sl1, k7, ssk, k1, turn
5º- sl1, p8, p2tog, p1, turn
6º- sl1, k9, ssk, k1, turn
...

Continue in this way until there is no more gaps between sts.


Pick up 13 sts, k20, pick up 13 sts.

Now you can continue knitting with 3 dpn or divide the heel sts between 2 dpn to have 4 needles.

At this point you'll have to decrease the sts from the heel to have the amount of sts from the start.

k16, k2tog, k1, k20, k1, k2tog, k16
k15, k2tog, k1, k20, k1, k2tog, k15
k14, k2tog, k1, k20, k1, k2tog, k14
k13, k2tog, k1, k20, k1, k2tog, k13
k12, k2tog, k1, k20, k1, k2tog, k12
k11, k2tog, k1, k20, k1, k2tog, k11
k10, k2tog, k1, k20, k1, k2tog, k10
k9, k2tog, k1, k20, k1, k2tog, k9
k8, k2tog, k1, k20, k1, k2tog, k8

Foot section:

knit until the end of the row for 25 rows.

Toes section:

knit trough 10 sts to begin the rows from now on on the side of the sock.

k2tog, k1 and place marker, k1, ssk, k14, k2tog, k1 and place marker, k1, ssk, k14
k2tog, k1 and place marker, k1, ssk, k12, k2tog, k1 and place marker, k1, ssk, k12
k2tog, k1 and place marker, k1, ssk, k10, k2tog, k1 and place marker, k1, ssk, k10
k2tog, k1 and place marker, k1, ssk, k10, k2tog, k1 and place marker, k1, ssk, k8

Sew the remaining stitches with the Kitchener stitch method.

Now you're done!
